The Indian River County Bar Association Set to Begin Law Week 2008 The Indian River County Bar Association will host a series of Law Week events beginning April 28th through May 2nd. Nationally, Law Week has been recognized for fifty years on May 1st, though many local and state bar associations extend the festivities throughout the entire week. This year’s theme, “The Rule of Law: Foundation for Communities of Opportunity and Equity,” will be recognized by both the Indian River County Commission and the Vero Beach City Council. Both bodies will issue proclamations declaring April 28th through May 2nd locally as Law Week. The hallmark of local Law Week activities is a phone-in TV show scheduled to air live on Comcast Channel 28 on Wednesday, April 30th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Lawyers practicing in areas of law such as foreclosure, criminal law, employment law, family law, wills, estate planning, real estate, business disputes, personal injury, landlord-tenant issues and more will take calls and answer questions. People can call (772) 564-4800 to participate in the televised program. On Thursday, May 1st from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., the local Bar will sponsor a free event at the Indian River County Courthouse Law Library. Local residents will have the opportunity to speak with lawyers face-to-face. Residents are encouraged to come to the event to ask lawyers any and all legal questions. The giving will continue with a Blood Drive later in the week. On Friday, May 2nd from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., the Indian River Blood Bank’s Bloodmobile will be stationed behind the county courthouse. The Law Week celebration will even touch Indian River County students. Throughout Law Week local lawyers are heading into the schools to discuss legal issues and the importance of the law. For additional information, please email VbLawWeek@gmail.com.
